Riley Wilson’s Sci-fi Drama Web Series Little Apple Now Playing On YouTube
Premiering today, January 18 on YouTube is the award-winning sci-fi/drama web series Little Apple on the Little Apple Universe channel--ending a screening and festival run that included the American Black Film Festival, The Apollo Theater, The International Black Film Festival, and educational institutions including Columbia University, Success Academy and the Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women. The new YouTube channel will feature all Little Apple content, including Season 1 of the series, behind-the-scenes footage on the creation of the series, and a slate of docu-shorts around afrofuturism and science fiction production.
The series is accompanied by a comic book, and follows Apple, a little Harlem girl, as she and her family deal with her new abilities, changing neighborhood, and growing consciousness. The show tells the moving and witty story of a young magical girl’s transcendence in a society that for all intents and purposes, is anti-Black and anti-woman. Themes explored in the series, comic and podcast include: Gentrification, The Erasure of Native Peoples, Black Feminism, Microaggressions, Black Girl Magic and more. Little Apple is also the 2019 jury award winner for Best Web Series at the American Black Film Festival.
“Little Apple has had a long and productive run targeting schools and youth organizations, but now it’s time to share The Little Apple Universe with our YouTube family and beyond,” says Riley S. Wilson (Orange Bright), series creator, showrunner, and director. “How are we as parents, teachers and community members contextualizing what’s been happening in the country? The injustice, the fear, the death! How are we making sure we don’t neglect the experiences, joy and trauma that young folks experience as well?”
Little Apple is also executive produced by Lisa Cortés (Precious, ALL IN: The Fight For Democracy) and produced by Okema T. Moore (Netflix Is A Joke).
Wilson, who serves as chief creative for ATS.4 Productions, the company behind Little Apple, is in in pre-production for Part 2 of Little Apple - Legend of the Conductors and new project, Cookie Crunch Club - an episodic Dramatic Mystery Series that reimagines the idea of the #DefundThePolice movement for children.
ATS.4 Productions/Little Apple Universe is a Department of Education vendor, providing television programming, racial & social justice curriculum and comics to New York City schools, including The School at Columbia University, MS 447, and Bedstuy New Beginnings Charter School.
