New Photos To HBO’s Lovecraft Country With Jurnee Smollett, Jonathan Majors, Courtney B. Vance and Aunjanue Ellis
HBO released new photos to its upcoming new drama series Lovecraft Country, from Oscar winner Jordan Peele and his Monkeypaw Productions, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, Misha Green and Warner Bros Television. The series debuts SUNDAY, AUGUST 16 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max.
The pilot was written by Underground executive producer/writer Misha Green. Peele will be exec producing along with Green, Abrams and Ben Stephenson. Green will also be showrunner.
The series is led by Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Jonathan Majors and also stars Courtney B. Vance, Wunmi Mosaku, Aunjanue Ellis, Michael K. Williams, Abbey Lee, Jamie Chung, Erica Tazel, Tony Goldwyn, Jamie Harris, Jamie Neumann, Mac Brandt, & Jordan Patrick Smith.
Based on the 2016 novel by Matt Ruff, Lovecraft Country focuses on 25-year-old Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors). After his father goes missing, Freeman joins up with his childhood friend Letitia “Leti” Lewis (Smollett-Bell) and his Uncle George (Vance) on a road trip from Chicago across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father Montrose (Michael Kenneth Williams). This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the malevolent spirits that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback. The goal is an anthological horror series that reclaims genre storytelling from the African-American perspective.
The ensemble cast is led by Jonathan Majors (White Boy Rick) as Atticus Freeman, Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Birds of Prey) as Letitia “Leti” Lewis. Courtney B. Vance (American Crime Story) as George Black, Wunmi Mosaku (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) as Ruby Dandridge, Aunjanue Ellis (If Beale Street Could Talk) as Hippolyta Black, Michael Kenneth Williams (Hap & Leonard) as Montrose Freeman, Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road) as Christina Braithwhite, and Tony Goldwyn (Scandal) as Samuel Braithwhite. Also starring Jamie Harris (Rise of the Planets of Apes) as Eustace Hunt, Jamie Chung (The Gifted) as Ji-Ah, Jordan Patrick Smith as William, Jamie Neumann as Hillary, Erica Tazel as Dora Freeman, and Mac Brandt as Lancaster.
LOVECRAFT COUNTRY is executive produced by Misha Green, J.J. Abrams, Jordan Peele, Bill Carraro, Yann Demange (who also directed Episode 1), Daniel Sackheim (who also directed Episodes 2 and 3), David Knoller (executive producer on Episode 1) and Ben Stephenson; based on the novel by Matt Ruff. Co-executive producers are Matt King and Rachel Rusch.
