Olivia Washington, Grantham Coleman to star in Wine In The Wilderness, directed by Tony Winner LaChanze

Theater News: Beginning March 6 are previews for Classic Stage Company’s production of Alice Childress's Wine in the Wilderness, which stars Olivia Washington and Grantham Coleman. Directing the play is Tony Award-winning actress and producer LaChanze. 

Opening night is March 24 and will run to April 13, 2025.

Wine in the Wilderness takes place on a hot summer night during the 1964 Harlem riot when artist Bill Jameson (Grantham Coleman) is introduced him to a model for the final piece of his triptych on Black womanhood. But this woman, Tomorrow Marie (Olivia Washington), is no mere muse, and she’s about to give Bill much more than he bargained for.

The complete Wine in the Wilderness cast also includes Brooks Brantly as Sonny-man, Lakisha Michelle May as Cynthia, and Milton Craig Nealy as Oldtimer.

The show also features scenic design by Arnulfo Maldonado, costume design by Dede Ayite, lighting design by Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew, sound design by Bill Toles, and wig and hair design by Nikiya Mathis.
