Julius Onah’s Captain America: Brave New World crosses $100M domestically, 18th Black Director to do so

Over the holiday weekend, Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World crossed over the $100M mark domestically at the box office, with $100M in total after four days in release. That makes its director Julius Onah the 18th Black Filmmaker to achieve that mark.

According to Boxofficemojo.com, from Feb. 14-16, the film took in $87.8M and on Monday, President’s Day, it was estimated to take it $12.2M.

In Captain America: Brave New World, Anthony Mackie stars as Sam Wilson, who has taken over as the new Cap from Steve Rogers after he retired at the end of the Avengers movies. Brave New World picks up with Harrison Ford as the US president, with the power dynamics in the world changing. After an attack, Cap is asked to join the military - it's not long before he's right in the middle of an international incident. The cast also includes Giancarlo EspositoDanny RamirezCarl LumblyTim Blake NelsonShira HaasLiv Tyler, and Xosha Roquemore.

For Onah, Brave New World is his fourth directorial film following The Girl Is in Trouble (2015), The Cloverfield Paradox (2018), and Luce (2019).
