Exclusive: Kaya Coleman & Exec Producer Pilar Golden talk Prime Video’s Beyond Black Beauty
Premiering on Prime Video on Oct. 15 is the coming-of-age drama series Beyond Black Beauty, which stars Kaya Coleman, Sagine Sémajuste, Gina James, Gilles Marini and Lisa Berry.
All eleven episodes of Beyond Black Beauty will be available on October 15 exclusively on Prime Video in the US and UK.
Inspired by the novel of the same name, Beyond Black Beauty follows Jolie Dumont (Coleman), an Olympic-driven equestrian whose journey is halted when her mother Janelle (Sémajuste) moves them from their posh Belgium life to Baltimore. There Jolie struggles to find roots but as she bonds with an equally spirited horse named Black Beauty, and learns to embrace her family’s ranch, where Black cowboys have been entrenched in their DNA for over a century.
Beyond Black Beauty is produced by Sinking Ship Entertainment, Leif Films, Saga Film and Amazon MGM Studios and is executive produced by Pilar Golden, Carla de Jong, Blair Powers, J.J. Johnson, Leif Bristow, Agnes Bristow, Hubert Toint, Christin Simms. Pilar Golden serves as the series creator, executive producer and showrunner.
Kaya Kimberley Coleman Prokopchuk, also known as Kaya Coleman, is a multi-disciplinary artist of Ukrainian and African-American descent. She has citizenship in Canada and the US and is known for Beyond Black Beauty (2024) and Dangerous Game: The Legacy Murders, Dickens of a Christmas, This Too Shall Pass, and Witches X.
Golden’s credits also include writing and co-producing credits for Max’s Gossip Girl, a reboot of the CW series of the same name from Joshua Safran; and writing credits on CBS’ God Friended Me and Crackle’s The Oath.
